I believe that all dogs should be schooled, at home obviously, for the same reason that children are schooled: to provide them with a space where they can acquire the necessary tools to develop socially, cognitively, physically and emotionally. In a way, we could say that education is preventive in the same way that physical training helps to avoid possible injuries and illnesses. A trained dog will be able to manage the stimuli it is subjected to during its life in a more effective way. This efficiency in managing the environment, situations and contexts is fundamental for its emotional health. Let's take for example a dog that shows certain symptoms of discomfort when thunder sounds. We don't give it importance because it usually doesn't show signs of being a fearful dog. If the event (the thunder) is repeated and it doesn't find within itself the instruments that allow it to respond differently to the stimulus, the discomfort could turn into fear. And then fear of the situation: the fear is no longer just of the thunder but of the rain that precedes it.

This preventive program also works on the social dimension of the dog, providing it with a framework that facilitates its coping with the challenges and defiances that it will have to overcome with the help and support of its guardian. This collaborative aspect has a very positive impact on the bond and trust that is established between the two.

It has always been said that the brain is a muscle, in the sense that the more it is exercised, the bigger it becomes. New neurons are created, neural circuits expand and the individual is able to build more complex cognitive processes. Cognitive responses gain ground over purely emotional ones and the result is a more stable and balanced dog.
